Ahead of Mother's Day we speak to Anna Frost who boasts a 20-year career in professional trail, ultra and mountain running. She has raced all over the world in every distance and terrain possible but attests that motherhood has been her most challenging yet profoundly loving and rewarding journey yet.
If we include our children, it might slow down, but maybe that is the point.
Since I was young, my family took me into nature for adventures, hikes, camping, fishing and exploring. It was a natural way of life for me. I have so many amazing memories of going there to learn to play. Gaining confidence and independence by personal exploration and lessons in nature.
When I became a mother, it was the hardest yet most loving and rewarding adventure I had been on.
I have learnt so much from Skylar, her intrigue in the world, noticing all the small beauties, learning from all the fascinating life lessons that we so often take for granted.
Simple pleasures such as going to the beach to sleep the night in a tent, listening to the waves, feeling the wind and breathing the fresh air together. Letting the ordinary come alive for them.
Mothers are so giving. We have grown, we have let go of who we were and we have found this new person. The mother. The one who gets to teach and to learn. When we give the child space to explore, we grow. It is my favorite thing about being a mother.
What is important to me? Being in the present, connecting to each other.
This seems simple but can often be so hard to make it all happen. I choose nature to find that connection. We are both so at peace, calm and feel nurtured by mother nature herself.
I am now coaching runners from all around the world. I have many mothers who have come to me to allow themselves the grace to grow. And I love being part of that journey for them. Follow Anna's adventures on social here.
