Description
An evolution of the renowned Ether Light mats has arrived with the XR Pro. Staying true to their comfort and durability, the XR Pro boasts ThermalCore technology which increases insulation value while keeping weight and packed volumeto a minimum. Air Sprung Cell construction provides 10cm of plush comfort wherever you sleep. Inflation and deflation are a breeze with the XPRESS valve and Airstream pump built into the stuff sack. With double the weld strength of previous models the XR Pro is perfect for alpine adventurers, cold-weather hunters to winter campers. Outdoor winter sleep never felt this good.
Technical Features

ThermalCore insulation uses a single or multiple layers of TRM material to reflect warmth back to the sleeper. The TRM layers reduce internal air movement, and the smaller die cuts, compared to prior models, reduce this further still. The result is a significant increase in both R-Value and in real-world insulation performance, while reducing weight and packed volume.

Sea to Summit developed the XPRESS valve to make inflation, deflation and adjustment of its air mats quicker and simpler than conventional air mats. The valve integrates a one-way inflate port, a rapid dump deflate port and a fine-tune button into a single, low-profile unit. The XPRESS valve fits the nozzle of the Airstream pump integrated into the stuff sack supplied with your Sea to Summit Air Sprung Cell sleeping mat.
(Pro Tip - turn the inflator bag of the sleeping mat pump inside out to reveal a nozzle sized perfectly for the mini-XPRESS valve of an Aeros Pillow.)

To create a sleep system appropriate for anticipated conditions (especially when the ground is colder), it is essential to know how well a sleeping mat resists heat loss into the ground. This resistance is known as an R-Value. Sea to Summit has always provided independent lab-tested R-Values for its sleeping mats. Since January 2020 we have used the industry standard ASTM F3340 test. Other factors determine how well a sleeping mat will insulate; but the standardised ASTM test is a good starting point for comparing performance across brands. Not all published R-Values are lab tested. Look for the 'ASTM F3340' icon - if this is not present, it is likely that the R-Value has been estimated.

The Airstream Pumpsack is Sea to Summit's big volume mattress pump which we've now integrated into the stuff sack of every Air Sprung Cell mat. The clever design opens at one end to stow the air mat and the other end unfolds to become the built-in pump. The Airstream Pumpsack can be inflated with a single breath and takes just two or three cycles to fill our mats. Not only is it faster than inflation by mouth, but there is minimal breath condensation entering the mat and it eliminates dizziness from blowing the mat up directly by mouth. The Airstream Pumpsack is also compatible with Sea to Summit's smaller multifunction valve, which is now featured on the updated Aeros pillow range, along with the Air Seats.

The Pillow Lock System comprises of self-adhesive hook-and-loop patches which are supplied with all Sea to Summit sleeping mats (as of Spring 2019). Attached to your sleeping mat, these patches secure your pillow and prevent it slipping. All Sea to Summit Pillows (as of Spring 2019) are compatible with this system. Existing pillows can be made Pillow Lock™ compatible by adding an Aeros Pillow Case.

Frequently Asked questions
Is the reflective layer inside the mat noisy?
No. The ThermalCore materials are much softer than traditional reflective films. The construction means the material is not under stress when in use. This is often the case with baffles made of reflective film. Some sound will come from the high-thread count face fabric depending on the sleeping bag/tent floor it comes into contact with.
Can you use an Ether Light XR Pro for winter camping?
Absolutely - the ThermalCore insulation makes it suitable for air/ground temperatures well below freezing. In critical situations, a closed-cell foam mat should always be used as a just-in-case insulating layer.
What's the maximum weight the Ether Light XR mat will support?
An Air Sprung Cell mat normally runs at 0.5 to 0.7psi. More air pressure supports a greater weight. A sleeper weight of 140 kg / 300 lb requires a pressure reachable by mouth inflation, but significantly below the 8psi load limit of the welds.
